Q: How secure is SurrealDB Cloud?

Your data security is our most important priority. SurrealDB Cloud is built on AWS using modern best practices for security. SurrealDB provides powerful native security capabilities, including flexible authentication and fine-grained security and access control capabilities, down to the record, row, and field level, with support for built-in or third-party authentication providers, and granular access permissions.

Q: Is SurrealDB Cloud compliant?

SurrealDB is currently GDPR, CCPA, ISO 27001, SOC 2 (Type 1 and Type 2) and Cyber Essentials Plus compliant. We will be working towards HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and FedRAMP compliance. You can read more about our compliance status in our Trust Centre.

Q: How resilient is SurrealDB and SurrealDB Cloud?

SurrealDB is being used by large enterprises in production at scale. All SurrealDB Cloud development and production instances are backed up daily. You will soon be able to configure backup frequency and retention. Dedicated fault tolerant clusters are available upon request, and self-serve fault tolerant deployments will soon be available as part of the Scale plan.

Q: What cloud provider is SurrealDB Cloud built on?

SurrealDB Cloud currently runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). We plan to expand to Google Cloud (GCP) and Microsoft Azure in the near future.

Q: How does pricing work?

In SurrealDB Cloud, you pay only for what you use. We want to ensure customers are confident of their usage and costs, avoiding any billing surprises. You will be invoiced monthly based on your usage for that month. Commitment discounts are available upon request.

Q: What payment methods are available?

SurrealDB Cloud supports credit card by default. If you need other payment methods, please contact us.

Q: Is the self-hosted Community edition really free?

Yes. The SurrealDB Community edition includes all core database features — documents, graphs, vectors, full-text search, ACID transactions, real-time queries, and the full SurrealQL language. It is free to use in development and production with community support via Discord and GitHub.

Q: What is included in Enterprise self-hosted pricing?

Enterprise self-hosted pricing is based on your deployment requirements and includes priority security patches, audit logging, FIPS-compliant cryptography, object storage support, distributed live queries, and commercial support with guaranteed SLAs. Contact our sales team to discuss your needs.

Q: What support plans are available and how do they differ?

SurrealDB offers three support tiers. Standard covers business hours with an 8-hour Severity 1 response time. Business Critical provides 24x7 coverage with a 2-hour Severity 1 response time. Premium includes 24x7 coverage, a dedicated Slack channel, a named Technical Account Manager, and a 30-minute Severity 1 response time.
