SiteForge is an AI content copilot that helps teams plan, write and structure websites. Its data moved from Supabase to SurrealDB in under 24 hours, and the database is now most of the backend.
Challenge
SiteForge's product is a copilot that generates and organises site content, and its data is nested and fast-changing. On Supabase, incomplete JSONB querying in the SDK meant several queries for a simple operation.
Requirements changed quickly and the backend struggled to keep up. Schema updates were costly and held back iteration, and every new feature seemed to need more backend APIs to fetch and shape the data it used.
The team wanted a database it could query directly from the client with authorisation enforced, so the backend could shrink rather than sprawl.
Solution
SiteForge moved to SurrealDB, which holds its JSON documents, graph relations and vector embeddings in one system. Record IDs and nested queries simplify access to deeply structured content that took several round trips before.
Client-side querying with authorisation built into the database replaced most of the backend APIs. The database is the backend for much of the product.
All customer data was migrated from Supabase in under 24 hours with zero downtime.
