SurrealDB Cloud is now available on Microsoft Azure

SurrealDB Cloud now runs on Microsoft Azure. Three Azure regions are live today - US East 2, Germany and Brazil - and the provider is now a choice you make alongside the region when you create an instance.

Until now every managed SurrealDB instance ran on AWS. That was fine if AWS was already where your workloads lived. If your organisation had standardised on Azure, it wasn't: a managed database on another provider meant a second cloud to review, a second network to connect and a second contract to negotiate.

Running on Azure puts the database inside the perimeter your security and procurement teams have already signed off. With Azure Private Link, instances are reachable over a private endpoint in your own virtual network, so traffic between your applications and your database never touches the public internet or crosses a provider boundary. That takes both the cross-cloud egress line item and the latency of that hop off the table.

For regulated workloads it also answers the residency question in the terms auditors actually ask about. German and EU customer data stays stored and processed in Germany; Brazilian data stays in Brazil, with more regions coming soon.

The controls are identical on both providers and in every region: SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and encryption at rest and in transit. So are the mechanics. Every tier is available, from Free and development instances through to production and Scale, and instance types, versions, backups and the API all behave exactly as they do on AWS. Existing automation needs nothing more than the new region value.

On AWS:

  • US East (N. Virginia)

  • US East (Ohio)

  • US West (Oregon)

  • Europe (Ireland)

  • Asia Pacific (Mumbai)

On Azure:

  • US East 2 (Virginia)

  • Europe (Germany)

  • South America (Brazil)

Create an instance in SurrealDB Cloud and pick an Azure region from the list. The Free tier costs nothing, so you can put a real instance in your own Azure region before you take anything to a review board.

If you are running SurrealDB in production and want high availability alongside in-region deployment, the Scale tier gives you multi-node, multi-availability-zone clusters.

A listing on the Azure Marketplace is coming soon, so you will be able to procure SurrealDB Cloud through the same channel as the rest of your Azure spend. In the meantime, if Azure is your standard and that is why you have been self-hosting until now, that trade-off is gone. Get in touch to talk through an enterprise deployment.
