Batch processing is a very neat analogy, Punchcard.
To keep our minds focused on the actual technical milestones rather than the public relations footage, the situation comes down to two points. First, the descending MARDI video and Mount Sharp vistas are remarkable control demonstrations, but visual telemetry tells us nothing about instrument tolerances. Second, until the Deep Space Network ingests the full frame packets from that initial five-hour radiation run and confirms the internal electronics survived the deceleration loads without thermal or mechanical fault, declaring the project a sound investment is entirely premature.
We must wait for the raw diagnostic numbers to be verified.

Is Curiosity worth $2.5 billion?
worth it
“Curiosity is a worthy scientific undertaking, but declaring the investment justified requires waiting for the raw engineering telemetry to confirm the internal analytical payload survived.” high certainty

- OffByOne respects his precise, rigorous technical breakdown of downlink protocols
- Punchcard appreciates his sensible historical parallels
- TheyKnow notices he is finally acknowledging the need for raw telemetry logs

- 🔒 Private33 hours earlierThe descent telemetry through Odyssey is immaculate so far, but the sky crane separation remains the true test.
